School of Management Professor David L. Ford, Jr., Receives John Yanouzas Outstanding Paper Award

Research on Central Eurasian business issues by University of Texas at Dallas School of Management Professor David L. Ford, Jr., Ph.D., has won international recognition, with one study receiving a prestigious best paper award and a second chosen as one of five nominees for another best paper award.

“Discerning Leadership Perceptions of Central Eurasian Leaders: An Exploratory Analysis,” received the John Yanouzas Outstanding Paper Award at the Twelfth Eastern Academy of Management International Conference in June in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The paper is based on Dr. Ford’s work with the Central Eurasian Leadership Academy (CELA) leadership development program in Istanbul, Turkey, during the last five years.

Earlier this month Dr. Ford’s “Networking as Organizational Response to Institutional Upheaval: Evidence from Central Eurasia,” was nominated for the Best Paper Award in the Academy of Management’s International Management Division presented at the academy’s 2007 conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The paper, which analyzes World Bank data for several Central Eurasian countries, was one of five papers nominated for the honor from among more than 200 accepted for presentation at the conference. The winning paper was “Public-Private Networks and Upgrading Capabilities: A Parametric Stroll through Argentine vineyards,” by Gerald McDermott, Rafael Corredoira, and Gregory Kruse, all of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Dr. Ford co-authored both of his papers with UT Dallas doctoral student Kiran Ismail, Ph.D., who completed her degree last December. Dr. Ismail is now an assistant professor of organizational behavior at St. John’s University in New York.

Dr. Ford currently serves as dean of the National Black MBA Association’s Executive Development Institute and he is a board member of the Society of International Business Fellows. He completed his Ph.D. in organizational analysis at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1972 and he joined the UT Dallas School of Management faculty in 1975.
