Workers on deck D amoungst jacks for elevated beam deck. The building construction is being managed in 4 sections, labeled counter-clockwise from the Northwest corner as sections A, B, C, and D. Teams of specialty contractors move from section to section. Each team completes tasks that are preliminary to tasks to be completed by a following team. Each section of the building is in a different stage of construction, but work on all sections proceeds simultaneously. At this time, the sections are being completed in reverse order.

Sections A and B will be "slab-on-grade," while the other sections are suspended over a 3 foot 6 inch tall crawl space. Curved forms for the AtriumSection B includes the round atrium at the South side of the building. Grade beams for section A are complete and are currently being backfilled.

The most of the first floor deck is complete for section C. Deck pans are being removed from underneath the completed deck by way of the crawl space. Columns are also being poured in section C.

Forms for the elevated beam deck of section D are being constructed. Whenever workers are more than 6 feet about grade, they must wear a safety harness and be "tied-off" 100% of the time. Workers attach their harness to safety cables using large snap hooks. Worker, tied-off at 18 ft above the deck. Each harness has two of the large hooks, enabling workers to move from structure to structure while always being tied-off.

There are nearly 80 workers on site today:

  • Westbrook (forms): 30
  • Western Placers (steel): 12
  • Encompass (electrical): 12
  • Hensel Phelps (grade beams, concrete pouring, field engineers): 20
