Frequently Asked Questions

Curriculum and Course Information

What are the prerequisites for the Global MBA Online program?

Prerequisites include knowledge of calculus, and competence in personal computing. Degree credit is not earned for program prerequisites. Deficiencies must be remedied within the first 12 hours of graduate work. Currently, these prerequisite courses are not offered online.

If a student needs to complete the calculus prerequisite, it is noted on the admission letter from UTD. The deficiency in calculus may be remedied by taking MATH 5304, Applied Mathematical Analysis for Non-majors I, or MATH 1325 and 1326. Students must receive a grade of 'B' or better. Most community colleges and universities have an equivalent course which may be taken with the approval of the Advising office.

Competence in personal computing may be demonstrated by completing BA 3351 with a grade of 'B' or better, completing an equivalent course at another institution, or passing an exemption exam. Waivers will be granted to students who regularly use word processing, database and spreadsheet applications in their work, or who complete any MIS course during the first two semesters.

I am required to take the pre-requisite course MATH 5304 (MATH 1325 and/or MATH 1326). Is this course offered online?

UTD currently does not offer the MATH pre-requisite courses online. You may take the pre-requisites at another 4-year institution (online or on- campus) that offers the equivalent. You will need to submit the Pre-approval Request form (a PDF file to be opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader) to the School of Management Advising office via fax or postage mail prior to enrolling in the course.

How do students access courses?

Students register for online MBA courses by sending an email request to the School of Management Advising Office (see Registration). Students in courses with the section number '0G1' or '0G2' will receive course access instructions usually one day before the start of the course. Properly registered students use their NetID to access their courses at: http://galaxy.utdallas.edu. Once you log into GALAXY, click on the "WebCT" link under "Self Service Links" (in the upper left-hand column). Students who do not have a UTD Net-account yet, can obtain one at: http://netid.utdallas.edu at the start of each semester. For assistance, please contact the UTD Help Desk at 972-883-2911 or go to http://www.utdallas.edu/ir/helpdesk/.

Students taking one of the two UTD courses delivered through the UT System TeleCampus (with section number as "0T1"), should go to TeleCampus web site to gain access to the course. The UT-TeleCampus will send further course access information to registered students.

Only graduate coursework with a grade of B or better taken within the past six years will be considered for transfer credit. Please note, if you have completed graduate coursework that is applicable to the MBA degree at UTD through the UT-System TeleCampus, you may request transfer of up to 3 additional credit hours, for a total of 18 maximum allowable transfer credit hours.
