Doctoral Program in Management Science, Operations Management Concentration
Prerequisites for beginning full doctoral study:
- Calculus, Matrix Algebra, Computer Programming, and Statistics (Deficiencies may be remedied by taking appropriate courses).
- Students entering the program without an MBA or equivalent will be required to complete a minimum of four courses in at least three areas of the type normally required of MBA students to provide them with background knowledge required of professional managers. In certain instances, a higher level course approved by the advisor may be used to substitute for an MBA level course.
Doctoral program course requirements:
- Required core courses (listed above)
- Secondary core courses (2 courses required out of 4 courses listed above):
- • Elective research methods courses:
- At least one course from: Statistics courses, Operations Research courses/Information Systems.
- Minor Field:
- Nine hours in any approved field.
- Required courses in Operations Management
- Students are required to take a sequence of specific courses in Operations Management. Students should consult with faculty members in the respective areas to decide on the sequence of courses.
- Seminars and Special Topics
- Twelve hours of special topics and seminars in the Operations Management area.
Dissertation
- The dissertation is written under the direction of the dissertation committee in accordance with the requirements for the Ph.D. in Management Science (listed above)
Remark
- Under very special circumstances, the requirements may be altered with the approval of the advisor and the Director of Ph.D. programs to meet special interests and take into account specific backgrounds that some students may have. Students wishing to pursue joint majors should contact the advisor in Operations Management.
